Hair Meets Make-up In Spring 2013

This week’s Under the Dryer comes to you from the 7th Avenue Plaza-located Eyes-A-Dazzle Beauty and Nail Salon, where veteran hairstylists and friends in the trade Juliet White and Lorraine Gilzene — with more than five decades of styling between them — were doing what they do best. In-between sips of the signature Absolut Fashion cocktails, courtesy of J Wray & Nephew Limited, clients were glammed-up with makeovers that featured the latest on-trend make-up looks straight from the Spring/Summer 2013 fashion week runways to complement their stylish ‘dos.

Clients: Simone Johnson, Sandra March, Toni-Ann Tingle, and Denishe Jeffrey

Sleek Finish

Simone Johnson, director of Sims Runway Fashions

Simone Johnson popped by Eyes-A-Dazzle for a treatment and set from her hairstylist Juliet White. As we are always upping the style ante, we convinced Johnson to transform her new ‘do with runway-worthy make-up and she obliged.

Steps:

* Shampoo with KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo.

* Apply B’s Metally Hair Stylist’s First Aid Hair Conditioner and Color Corrective.

* Sit under the dryer for 15 minutes.

* Set hair.

* Sit under the dryer for 30 minutes.

* Apply Organics Olive Oil Smoother and Polisher serum.

* Flat-iron and style.

* Mist with SoftSheen-Carson Optimum Care sheen spray.

Make-up

Johnson’s runway-ready look featured smokey eyes from Jeremy Scott’s presentation at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), and red lips from Burberry Prorsum’s presentation at London Fashion Week (LFW) for an overall fresh-faced look that is on-trend for next season.

Make-up Steps:

* Cleanse the face.

* Moisturise with Mark Matte Chance Mattifying Lotion.

* Apply Avon Magix Face Perfector SPF 20 Primer.

* Apply Mary Kay concealer.

* Use L’Oreal True Match Foundation C7.

* For smokey eyes, use the Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Palette.

* Apply Maybelline Great Lash Mascara to the lashes.

* Use Sacha Burnt Orange blush for the cheeks.

* Apply LA Girl liquid eyeliner.

* Apply NYX burgundy lip pencil over entire lips.

* Use NYX maroon lipgloss to complete lips.

* Lightly dust with Black Opal Invisible Loose Powder to complete the look.

Simone’s take:

My hair feels wonderful and my make-up is flawless. I love the look.

Corporate Chic

Sandra March, programmes officer at the Mona School of Business, UWI

Sandra March was in town from Montego Bay for a function at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, when she decided she would have Lorraine Gilzene, who first styled her in 2004, create her look for the occasion.

Steps:

* Shampoo with TRESemmé Luxurious Moisture Shampoo.

* Apply Nairobi Wrap-It Foam Wrap and Texturizing Styling Lotion.

* Set hair.

* Sit under the dryer for 25 minutes.

* Apply Organics Olive Oil Smoother and Polisher Serum.

* Flat-iron and style.

* Mist with SoftSheen-Carson Optimum Care sheen spray.

Make-up

Not one to use make-up frequently, Sandra was cautious about the look she would receive from the Spring/Summer 2013 trends. She opted for a fresh-faced look from Proenza Schouler’s presentation at NYFW, with a pop of wine red lipstick for good measure.

Make-up Steps:

* Cleanse the face.

* Moisturise with Oil of Olay Moisture Lotion.

* Apply Avon Magix Face Perfector SPF 20 Primer.

* Apply Mary Kay Concealer.

* Apply Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse Foundation.

* Use Maybelline EyeStudio Quads in neutral for fresh-faced look.

* Apply Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara.

* Apply MAC Mineralized Blush on the cheeks.

* Apply NYX burgundy lip pencil over entire lips.

* Use NYX wine red lipgloss to complete the lips.

* Lightly dust with Black Opal Invisible Loose Powder to the complete look.

Sandra’s take:

Lorraine knows what I expect when I come in to get my hair done, so I’m never worried when she styles my hair. The make-up looks so natural. This is my new look.

All That Jazz

Toni-Ann Tingle, student

University student Toni-Ann Tingle was in for a wash and leave-in treatment. Of course, she was also given two of next season’s hottest make-up trends.

Steps:

* Shampoo with KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo.

* Apply Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream.

* Blow-dry.

* Apply Organics Olive Oil Smoother and Polisher Serum.

* Flat-iron and style hair.

Make-up

Toni-Ann’s make-up featured blue eyes and nude lips, seen in the Rebecca Minkoff and Michael Kors presentations at NYFW, and Jean Pierre Braganza at LFW.

Make-up steps:

* Cleanse the face.

* Apply Mary Kay Balancing Moisturizer.

* Prime the face with Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer.

* Apply Black Opal Stick Foundation in Truly Topaz.

* Use Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Palette for the blue eyes.

* Apply MAC powder blush to the cheeks.

* Apply Cover Girl LashPerfection Mascara.

* Use NYX neutral lipgloss for the lips.

* Finish look with Sacha Perfectly Translucent Loose Powder.

Toni-Ann’s take:

I feel like a model right off the runway.

Oh So Fab

Denishe Jeffrey, manager, Honey Fashions

Having processed her hair a few days earlier, Denishe Jeffrey was in for a quick flat-iron and style. Naturally, we gave her a 2013 makeover.

Steps:

* Apply Organics Olive Oil Smoother and Polisher Serum.

* Flat-iron and style.

* Mist with Soft-Sheen-Carson Optimum Sheen Spray.

Make-up

Denishe’s smokey eyes were inspired by Gianfranco Ferré’s Milan Fashion Week presentation, while her nude lips were inspired by the Donna Karan NYFW presentation.

Make-up steps:

* Cleanse face.

* Moisturise with Mary Kay Balancing Moisturizer.

* Apply Revlon photo-ready primer.

* Apply Cinema Secrets Concealer.

* Apply MAC Foundation N45.

* Use Coastal Scents 88 Shimmer Palette for the smokey eyes.

* Apply Avon SuperExtend Extreme Mascara for the lashes.

* Use MAC Mineralize Blush for the cheeks.

* Apply LA Girl liquid eyeliner.

* Apply MAC lip pencil all over lips.

* Finish lips with NYX Matte Lipstick.

* Finish look with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

Denishe’s take:

It’s fabulous! I’m fabulous!

Hot Make-up Tip: Always prime after moisturising for longer-lasting make-up, minimised pores, and to reduce shine.
