A small field of six runners will contest the $786,500 Gladiator Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today. There will, however, be no small measure of competitiveness amongst the compact field of Open Allowance horses going 1,400 metres.

The Gladiator Trophy that highlights a combustible-looking two-trophy 10-race card is scheduled to go off at approximately 4:30 pm, with first post at 12:30.

The $715,000 The Royal Lancaster Trophy, a maiden special weight run for native-bred two-year-old colts and geldings going 1,000m round is the other trophy race on the card. This event has attracted a smart-looking crop of juveniles set to go to post at approximately 1:30 pm. Seven will run.

Two other races that should attract attention will be the $715,000 Restricted Stakes eighth race for native-bred three-year-olds going 1,400m and the 10th and final $462,000 Track Price Plus “Dig Out Handicap” Race #8.

The “punters special” maiden condition race for native-bred four-year-olds upward going 1,000m straight has attracted a full field of 16 that will close the card at approximately 5:05 pm.

In the main feature, the Wayne DaCosta-trained Sir Von is the only runner in the small field who has not visited the winner’s enclosure for the season.

But following his good showing behind the fleet-of-foot importee Noon It Is and Derby winner Typewriter going 1,300m on last, Sir Von looks certain to come into his own as none in the line-up possesses the pace to outstep the son of Even the Score before he gets going with the light impost of 52.5kg.

Sir Von, whose last victory was scored against Mark My Word 10 races ago going 2,000m, led for the entire trip and won by 2 1/2 lengths.
