J’can artist is dead
HAILED as one of the era’s most significant “primitive” painters, Gaston Tabois died on November 20, 2012. He was 88.
The National Gallery of Jamaica, which owns his painting Road Menders (1956), offered its condolences on the artist’s passing.
Born in Trout Hall, Clarendon in 1924, the self-taught painter held his first solo show at the Hills Gallery in Corporate Area in 1955.
