Take Mikenificent in Jamaica Racehorse Owners’ Association Trophy
MIKENIFICENT will leave from gate number nine in today’s $715,000 Jamaica Racehorse Owners’ Association Trophy feature over 2,000 metres at Caymanas Park, as he seeks to rebound from his eighth-placed finish on last over 1,200 metres.
A field of nine will go post-ward at a time set at approximately 4:35 pm with first post at 12:15 pm.
Mikenificent, owned by Michael Howard and who last won over the distance in September of last year at this level, takes a drop in class from Open Allowance after three attempts with one victory to contest Overnight Allowance, three-year-old and upward, test of stamina run.
It will be the second attempt the American-bred colt will make at this level after failing to put in a serious punch behind Traditional Princes going 1,200 metres a week ago.
However, with the distance increased and the trip ideal and well drawn on the outside, the Oneil Markland-trained four-year-old bay colt by Indy King out of Pearlwood (Touch Gold) bred by Donna Plumley & Harold Plumley could put away this moderate field of runners and visit the winner’s enclosure for the first time from four starts this season.
Champion jockey in waiting Dane Nelson, who has been aboard twice from his last three wins, will again have the call.
Recent winner and fellow American-bred There Goes Justin, who is coming off two splendid runs over 1,820 metres with a victory in his final run, could present Mikenificent with his most serious challenge. A bold front-runner who can also run on, There Goes Justin, trained by Fitzgerald Richards, will again be taking advantage of the apprentices 3.0kg claim piloted by the inform Shameree Muir.
The $715,000 Andrew HB Aguilar is another important trophy race on the 10-race card featuring a number of potentially capable two-year-olds who are being primed for the upcoming ultra-rich SVL $4,250,000 Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes on Boxing Day. Among them are the Richard Azan-trained Agakhan, Flagrans trained by Fitznum Williams, Frankenstorm trained by Anthony Nunes, Best Flyer trained by Uton Stewart and the well-bred Humble Lion prepared by Heaton Thomas.
Agakhan watched from the rear as his more fancied stable-mate Doc Holiday marched to his first win over 1,400 metres.
Agakhan, who made only mild gains on the field in what appeared to be an afternoon stroll, looked to have a lot in hand when ridden by jockey Richard Mitchell. Now apparently ready to test his true potential he has been stepped up in training and the champion jockey elect called to the saddle.
