Sav J-Hawks soar in Hi-Lyte basketball
WHITHORN, Westmoreland — Sav J-Hawks chalked up win number four in the Hi-Lyte Insport Western Basketball Men’s Championships on Saturday after a close two-point (63-61) win over visiting Granville Wolfpack at Whithorn.
A game-high 21 points from Chescardo Grant led J-Hawks to the win that improved their points total to 10 from six games, tied for fifth as the race for place sin the quarter-finals heats up.
Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights lead with 15 points with two games to go and they are followed by Rockybar Ballers on 12 points with Trelawny Tornadoes and Inner-city Avalanche next on 11 each, while J-Hawks and William Knibb Thunder are tied on 10 points each followed by Coral Gardens Raptors on nine.
On Saturday both teams were locked through the first two quarters at 11-all and 28-28 before Granville surged ahead in the third to lead 48-43 going into the fourth quarter.
J-Hawks, however, came back in the fourth quarter to outscore the St James club and win by a slim margin.
Grant also grabbed 22 rebounds, while Curtis Anderson scored 11 points and Robert Swaby scored 10 for the winners.
Davian Thelwell and Dwayne Keane both scored 18 points for Granville.
