Warriors whip Allstars in Hi-Lyte basketball
DENHAM Town Warriors destroyed Zone Two rivals Linkup Allstars, 73-55, in the feature game of the Hi-Lyte Southern Conference Community Basketball League at Edward Seaga Courts on Sunday.
The Warriors put on an impressive display with a game-high 25 points from Deano Hibbert, 20 from Charles Watson and 15 from Deveraux Preston.
Aquaie Preston was Linkup’s topscorer with 13 points.
Denham Town, who are now unbeaten after six starts, remained a point adrift of Spanish Town Meadows and Linkup with 12 points. However, Meadows have played two games more and Linkup one.
At the Seaga Courts, Linkup started the better team, as after a close first period they took the quarter, 22-19. They had the better of the first half after they came out 15-12 winners in the second quarter to lead 37-29 at half-time.
However, the Warriors rallied in the third period, blowing away their opponents, 23-8, to overtake the Allstars, 52-45, going into the last quarter.
The West Kingston boys maintained their momentum in the final quarter, outscoring their rivals, 19-10, to claim a convincing victory.
Meanwhile, Damion Johnson posted a game-high 32 points as Meadows defeated Saints, 71-54, for their fifth win in eight games. Andre Beckford was the Saints’ topscorer with 22 points.
Majesty New Creation stayed fifth with 10 points after their 85-37 mauling of Ebony Volcanoes. Mike Davis led New Creation with 29 points, with support from Sanseto Campbell, who posted 22 points.
Curtis Love topscored for Ebony with 12 points.
In Zone Three, Arnett Rockers handed second-placed Upper Room Church their second loss of the season, after a narrow 48-47 win.
Chevaughn Willison led Arnett with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Gavin Duncan and Tommy McDonald were Upper Room’s topscorers with 11 points each.
In Zone One, Norman Gardens Dragons eased past Duhaney Park, 70-55, with 26 points and 11 rebounds from Sheldon McGrowder and 14 points from Carlos Kidd.
Gerron Thomas led the scoring for Duhaney Park with 18 points.
