Countdown to the Grammys

THE National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is scheduled to announce its nominations for the 55th Grammy Awards today in Los Angeles.

In November, it released provisional lists for the various categories including 50 for Best Reggae Album.

That will eventually be cut to five or six nominees. The Grammys take place February 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Of the 50 reggae projects named, a total of 29 are from dancehall artistes.

Tad Dawkins of Tad’s International Record is pleased with the number of dancehall albums in the provisional list. According to him, “it means that the Grammy committee is now taking a more serious look into all genres of reggae music, to try and balance the selection. This is a great move!”

Among the dancehall albums in the draft are: Freedom Fighter (Anthony B), Reggae Music Again (Busy Signal), Krazy Love (Da’Ville), Diversity (Gentleman), Crying to the Nation (I Octane), Life Teachings (I Wayne), The Chant (Sizzla), The System (Romain Virgo), Mental Maintenance (Konshens), and Sweet Jamaica (Mr Vegas).
