Avalanche continue hunt for place in quarters

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Inner-city Avalanche will seek to stay in the race for a place in the quarter-finals of the Hi-Lyte Insports Western Basketball Men’s Championships when they take on winless Muschett Cardinals at the Montego Bay Cricket Club today starting at 6:30 pm.

Avalanche are tied for sixth place on 11 points with Sav J-Hawks behind joint leaders Montego Bay Cricket Club Knights, Rockybar Ballers and Trelawny Tornadoes on 15 points each, while Coral Gardens Raptors and William Knibb Thunder are on 14 points each.

Thunder scored their sixth win on Tuesday with an easy 75-47 victory over Raptors at Cricket Club, as Martin Belnavis led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Thunder led all the way with a 10-point lead, 19-9, after the first quarter and never looked back, increasing the margin all the way.

Shavaughn Reid also scored 17 points for Thunder, while Alwayne Smith scored 13 points.

Jerome Kisena had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Raptors, while Ricardo Thomas scored 10 points.
