TG hold Highgate at Drax Hall
HIGHGATE United and Tivoli Gardens played to a 0-0 draw in their RSPL game at Drax Hall on Wednesday.
In an evenly contested game, both teams launched a number of attacks but failed to get on the scoresheet.
Tivoli’s attacks were led by Shawn McKoy, Dane Kelly and Nicholas Scott. However, keen defensive work by Highgate’s captain Anthowe Dawkins, Akeem Thenstead and Andre Dyce kept them at bay. The Kingston side earned a number of corners as well, but failed to convert.
Meanwhile, countered through Donavan Davis, Carlos Barrett and Gawayne Speed, but found Rankie Anderson hard to penetrate.
On one occasion, Carlos Barrett broke down the right flank and moved towards the penalty area and was brought down by Christopher Jackson, who was cautioned by referee Kevin Morrison as the first half ended goalless.
Highgate should have taken the lead midway the second half when Shamir Stewart crossed and Carlos Barrett failed to head home. Shortly thereafter, Stewart’s pass to Roberta Fletcher saw the latter’s shot being blocked by Rankie Anderson.
Tivoli’s coach Glendon Bailey was pleased with the point on the road.
“We knew it was going to be hard. Highgate along with ourselves are on the resurgence in the second round and we know it was going to be a tough task playing here.
“Getting that point on the road is very good, but I really came here with the intention of getting the three points.”
Highgate’s coach Michael Smith was not happy with the result.
“We came out too hungry for the game and as a result of that, the work we put in…. we did not stick to the plan. We got chances and we did not put it away… it is a work in process.”
