Jamaica XI plays JPL All Star tomorrow
JAMAICA’S cricketers preparing for next month’s Caribbean Twenty20 tournament, the only regional title that has eluded them over the years, will be put through a stern test by an all-Jamaica Premier League (JPL) T20 team at the Manley Horne field tomorrow at 1:30 pm.
Xavier Marshall, who scored the only century in the JPL, along with Peat Salmon and Cassius Burton, who both tormented batsmen who played against champions University Dynamites, see this match-up as a welcome move, as Jamaica get ready to face top Trinidad & Tobago spinners.
Burton, a leg spinner, and Salmon, an off-spinner, were described by Jamaican left-arm spinner Nikita Miller as ones for the future. “They bowled well and I know when it’s time to hang up my boots, Jamaica spin department is in good hands,” Miller said after the final last Sunday where the Dynamites beat his Half-Way-Tree Sparks by seven wickets.
Andrew Richardson and Fabian Forbes, who are quality fast bowlers, will use the new ball for the JPL XI, while Jermaine Blackwood, Kemar Marshall and Odaine Hutchinson will support Marshall in the batting department.
Yannick Elliott, John Campbell, Aldane Thomas, and Danza Hyatt, who was out of touch during the JPL series, would want to use this match to impress the selectors for Jamaica’s first starting XI on January 6, 2013.
