Sporting clip youthful Savannah 1-0
FROME, Westmoreland — Sporting Central Academy (SCA) snapped a three-game skid with a hard-fought 1-0 win over whipping boys Savannah SC at Frome Sports Complex on Sunday.
Dwayne Campbell’s early second-half goal gave the Clarendon club their second win in the second round after beating another struggling team, Boys’ Town, by the same margin.
Sporting improved their tally to 24 overall, while Savannah stay stuck on the bottom of the tables on 11, while extending their streak to 15 games since their last win.
Savannah coach Everton Tomlinson started Frome Technical schoolboy Kenardo Cooper and brought in his teammate Tevin Williams and Rusea’s striker Demar Dohman off the bench in the second half.
Williams replaced Shane Anderson in the 86th, while Dohman came on for Fabian Samuels at the start of the second half.
Despite this, however, he said this was not a move away from the more experienced players. Tomlinson told the Jamaica Observer he was seeking “to mix the new players with the others who were at the club already”.
“The young players have shown a good awareness of where they need to be and because of that, we are not afraid of putting them into games,” Tomlinson added.
He said overall he was pleased with the team’s effort, despite continuing to lose games.
“I have to commend the players and the effort they are putting out and so far I have not have to make any drastic decisions when it comes to discipline, and that is good for the team,” he said, adding that the next step was to tackle the team’s management strategies.
Campbell scored a header in the 51st as Sporting beat the promoted club for the second straight time after a 3-0 margin at home in the first round.
