Sporting, Arnett end 1-1 at Brancourt
TOLL GATE, Clarendon — Schoolboy Corey Hylton scored his first Red Stripe Premier League goal to earn Sporting Central Academy a 1-1 draw with Arnett Gardens at Brancourt yesterday.
Hylton, who starred for Lennon High in this season’s daCosta Cup, benefitted from some indecisive defending to slot in a 51st-minute equaliser on his home debut.
Arnett, who had Dwayne Gaynor was ejected 11 minutes from time, took the lead in minute 21 through Fabian Reid, who converted a left-sided cross.
They then had a glorious opportunity to win the game in time added, but the unmarked Rohan Reid somehow managed to drag Fabian’s cut-back agonisingly wide.
The result leaves the ‘Junglists’ in a tightly bunched mid-table on 29 points. “I think we played well enough to win the game but such is football. The good thing is that we got a point on the road,” Arnett coach Calvin Lewis said.
Sporting inched to 25 points but remain in ninth place.
Interim coach Vassell Reynolds, who thought the draw was a fair result, said they are about three points behind their projected tally heading into the Yuletide break.
“I don’t think we are necessarily on a bad run at the moment,” he said. “We went seven games without a win the other day and now are unbeaten in three.”
