Massive 14-0 win for MBU in St James KO
ROSE HALL, St James — Two players scored second-half hat-tricks as Premier League team Montego Bay United (MBU) swamped St James FA Division One outfit Barrett Town, 14-0, in their first round Captain’s Bakery KO at Wyndham field on Wednesday as the competition kicked off.
Brian Brown and Leon Irving both notched second-half hat-tricks as the Premier League team scored 10 goals in the second half after leading 4-0 at half-time.
There was also a well-needed win for struggling Western Confederation Super League side Norwood Strikers as they came from behind to beat Copperwood FC, 2-1, at Bickersteth, while Catherine Hall got a walk-over win against Paradise FC, who failed to show for their game at UDC field.
Last season’s giant killers, Lilliput Rovers, who eliminated MBU in the first round, will take on Granville City at Wyndham; promoted Senior League team Reggae Youths tackle Violet Kickers at Tucker; Salt Spring and Little Miami meet at Sam Sharpe, while Abes Academy and North Gully Ambassadors clash at the UDC field today. The first round ends tomorrow with four more games.
On Wednesday, Brian Brown scored in the 52nd, 76th and 79th minutes, while Irving scored in the 54th, 61st and 86th. Keneil Kirlew and Omar Gordon also got two goals each, while Kemar James, who scored the opener in the fifth, Fabian McCarthy, Allan Ottey and Greame Green also got on the scoresheet.
At Bickersteth, Norwood — who lost their first three games in the Super League and are yet to score a goal at that level — came back from an eighth-minute deficit to beat Copperwood.
Dwight Hibbert had given the home team the lead, but Renaldo Bernard levelled in the 49th before Odane Campbell scored the winner in the 57th.
