Return of the Kru
THE drama Mi And Mi Kru returns to Television Jamaica for its third season in March.
The series, which began in 2009, is built around Benzly Hype and members (all cousins) of dancehall group, Innocent Crew.
According to Benzly Hype, who is also the show’s producer and writer, the new season will feature cameos by Spragga Benz, Tanya Stephens, Gappy Ranks, and General Degree.
Directed by Kurt Wright and Robin Chin, it also stars original cast members Audrey Reid, Professor Nuts and Vas Blackwood.
“This time we are taking it back to basics and the series focuses on how the crew started and the obstacles and benefits of living in the inner city,” Benzly Hype explained.
Benzly Hype, whose real name is Hemsley Morris Jnr, told the Jamaica Observer that Mi And Mi Kru’s aim is to inspire youth.
“Music and television shows are very powerful mediums as it has the ability to drastically change a person’s life,” he said. “There are some artistes who can sing about negative issues and get a whole bandwagon to follow them. Well, my aim is to get the listening ears of the massive through uplifting productions.”
Mi And Mi Kru will also be broadcast in Barbados and sections of Africa.
In addition to writing scripts, Benzly Hype says Innocent Crew is working on an album, also titled Mi and Mi Kru. The 12-track set will include the last single original member Courtney ‘Clumsy Dapsy Daps’ Morris recorded with the group which is best known for the song Impossible Train.
