MoBay Nite Out entertains, but craft vendors complain of poor business
MONTEGO BAY, St James — An even bigger crowd came out for the second staging of MoBay Nite Out on Monday.
But craft vendors say that business has not been good for them.
Craft vendor Sandra Morris told the Observer West that she had not sold one single item and feels that the event is a waste of her time.
“We have to pay $2,000 to come to the event and mi nah get no business at all, so what’s the sense,?” she asked.
Jean James, another craft vendor, expressed similar sentiments.
“People just come and look, de nah buy nothing. We have a better turnout this month but still no business for the craft vendors. The tourists need to be brought to us so that we can get business,” she complained.
But chair of the ‘MoBay Nite Out’ committee Suzette Brown said her committee is willing to assist the craft vendors in getting business.
“We definitely have to go back to the drawing board and find a way to incorporate the craft vendors along the strip where they can be visible and easily identified by the tourists especially. That will have to be the way forward next month,” she told the Observer West.
Meanwhile, patrons danced and partied the night away as they moved around the different venues across the packed Montego Bay ‘Hip Strip.’
DJ Bambino had one of the bigger crowds and kept patrons hooked, as he selected his tunes from the Digicel Music Truck.
The Old Hospital Park had a good crowd as well, and there patrons were entertained with performances by Okonko, Lij Tafari and other local acts.
Canadian -born musician, Shawn Stockman also entertained the crowd.
A number of participating merchants said they were pleased with Monday’s staging of the event.
