Charlotte Olympia is the new ‘It’ shoe on the red carpet
It used to be the case that no A-lister would be seen walking the red carpet without their red-soled companions — Christian Louboutin heels. But if the SAG Awards last weekend was anything to go by, forties-inspired Charlotte Olympia shoes are in the running to become the new ‘It’ shoe label. Among the stars who showed their devotion to the British label at the event were Sofia Vergara, Jessica Chastain and Julianne Moore. Modern Family bombshell Sofia Vergara chose a pair of ‘Daphne’ platform pumps from the label’s bridal collection, pairing them with her white gold Donna Karan Atelier gown. The peep toe pair she wore are from the designer’s ‘To Dye For’ line, which can be dyed the colour of your choice. Zero Dark Thirty actress Jessica Chastain went red from head to toe, coordinating her dress, lipstick shade and Charlotte Olympia ‘Paloma’ shoes with her signature red hair. And though few were able to get a glimpse of them, Julianne Moore’s strappy white ‘Gilda’ shoes from the British brand complemented her plunging white gown.
The thirty-one-year-old designer, Charlotte Olympia Dellal — whose famous family includes her model sister Alice Dellal and her cousin, Girl’s star Jemima Kirke — is enjoying success in America since the launch of her first US boutique in New York City last May. She says her fashion creations are inspired by her favourite era — the forties. Her Old Hollywood-style designs feature patterns including tropical prints, animal spots, piano keys and bold stripes and polka dots. The soles of her shoes are all stamped with her signature gold spiderweb logo.
