The sacking of head coach Donovan Duckie was not a malicious act, says Waterhouse FC president Ricky Chin, but one he concedes was necessary at this time as as the club looks to the futrure.

Both president and coach appeared to be at logger-heads over key issues, which ultimately ended in a parting of ways.

As first reported by the Jamaica Observer’s online edition on Tuesday, Duckie, the former National Under-20, accused the club president of meddling into his affairs and wanting him to expose young players for possible sale overseas while, his focus was on getting immediate results.

“A sell him want to sell players… we have two different objectives. He just want to sell players (and) what about the short term goal. What about the players and the people of Waterhouse. What about my career. What about cups coming to the community. That is of least importance to him,” Duckie charged.

“He doesn’t feel like I am playing enough youth so we have a falling out. There is nothing to say I am doing bad. One win and we jump back into third. Is not like am failing. We just not seeing eye to eye,” he continued.

Duckie, who was assistant to Velibor ‘Bora’ Milutinovic in 2006, said for months he has been unhappy because of the differences in philosophy but thought his dismissal was not merited.

“He gave me the letter of termination and I took it and smiled because I am fed up long time,” Duckie explained.

But Chin defended his decision saying he had enough reasons and in fact, it was Duckie, he claimed, who asked to be replaced.

“I am sure I can give more than 10 reasons (to fire him), but I wont go into it,” Chin said.

“There are so many things going wrong. The team gone flat and he were unable to move it. There are other options we need to look on, hence, I went that route (to sack Duckie). It is nothing malicious, I just think he was unable to carry it (the team) further,” added Chin.

Waterhouse are currently seventh in the 12-team Red Stripe Premier League on 32 points, just five adrift of second-placed Portmore United, but 13 behind leaders Harbour View on 45 points.

Duckie feels his dismissal was unwarrented as the team was not doing as badly as some people are making it out to be.

“He didn’t put any reason (in the dismissal letter). Five points off second place in the Premier League with one-and-a-half rounds to go, the club is not doing badly,” noted Duckie.

Despite what Chin described as wonderful work by Duckie last year, the president feels all of that good has been eroded.

“What he did last year, he did what no other coach has done, but he has destroyed a lot of the framework,” said Chin.

“The team was divided, fragmented and he bring it back together… that was a difficult task but he was not able to maintain that,” Chin added.
