MONTEGO BAY, St James – GRAMMY -winning deejay Beenie Man is among a list of top Jamaican musical acts scheduled to perform on Ash Wednesday at the inaugural staging of the Rainforest Seafood Festival at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay.

Other acts include Ken Boothe, Romain Virgo, I-Octane, Tifa, Cronixx and Prodigal Son, as well as comedians Ity and Fancy Cat.

The entertainment package will also include a slew of activities for youngsters, comprising an organised children’s village, ground rides, face painting and stilt walkers.

But apart from the entertainment package, the one-day festival, which is being staged by the non-profit philanthropic organisation, We Care For Cornwall Regional Hospital to raise funds for the medical facility, will involve the preparation of a wide array of dishes from vendors who will journey from various sections of the island, including Hellshire, Middle Quarters, Hopewell and Port Royal.

” The festival will be an epicurean delight and will highlight the best of Rainforest’s diverse seafood offerings through well-known restaurants and chefs,” Max Jardim, the project manager for the event ,told the Observer West.

He said the group is hoping to raise $5 million from the event, all of which will go toward the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Yesterday, Jardim told the Observer West that he is satisfied with the pace at which preparations are going for the event.

“Everything is falling into place nicely for next Wednesday’s event. We want it to be the largest fund-raising festival in western Jamaica and so we are expecting maximum support,” he said.
