LAST Christmas, as part of their Share A Smile Christmas Promotion, Digicel gave seven lucky Jamaicans the ultimate Christmas present.

These seven individuals were awarded with $1 million for themselves and an additional $500,000 to share with their family and friends.

This promotion had no age limit so was open to any one who owned a Digicel phone and topped up their account, one of the lucky winners was a 15-year-old Immaculate Conception High student, Amoy Jarrett.

Jarrett, who plays double bass for the Immaculate Orchestra and is currently a recipient of a National Commercial Bank scholarship, thought that “winning a million dollars (was) definitely a great way to start the new year. I couldn’t have won at a better time.”

“At first I was rather flabbergasted, as in I didn’t know how to react,” the fourth-former recalled. “I was automatically entered in the competition when I added credit to my phone. I was happy and excited. I’ve never really won anything before and I feel Digicel is doing a good thing.”

Jarrett plans to sit mathematics and principles of accounts in the upcoming Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) exams. This will bring her one step closer to achieving her ultimate dream, which she shared with us.

“After Immaculate, I would really love to enrol in the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to pursue a career in the field of law,” the budding lawyer told TEENage. “UCLA is a pretty expensive school so the money is definitely going towards that.”

“I have a passion for law so I guess (that’s) why I see myself being a lawyer,” Jarrett continued. “Also, I like to be in control and in being a lawyer I would get that sense of control.”

This overachiever also has a passion for the pen and is currently writing a book called Internal Battles. This book follows a TEENage female protagonist, the daily struggles she faces and how she overcomes these struggles.
