KC get the better of Muschett
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Kingston College qualified for the semi-finals of both sections of the ISSA/KFC all-island boys’ high school basketball competition after beating Western Conference champions Muschett High by identical 21-point margins in both games at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Monday.
In two match-ups between quarter-final zone leaders, Kingston College won the Under-16 game 68-47, while the Under-19 team won 70-45 and advanced to yesterday’s semi-finals.
Both teams had won their previous games against St Elizabeth Technical and Edwin
Allen, respectively, to set up Monday’s
winner-take-all encounter.
In the Under-16 game, despite a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds from Karlington Barrett, Muschett fell short and were outscored 38-24 in the second half after trailing by eight points 22-30 at half-time.
Kingston College led 12-8 after the first quarter as Malik Pusey scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds and six assists, Jaime Hugh Brown scored 13 points, while Jamaine Bennett had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Obrien Clarke scored 11 points to support Barrett.
In the Under-19 game, Clifton Jean hit five of seven three pointers in his game-high 34 points; 10 rebounds and nine assists to lead Kingston College. Former Cornwall College and St Jago player John-Audley Jackson scored 16 points and had five rebounds and five assists, while Malcolm Lumbsden scored 12 points.
Trevor Mowatt led Muschett with 16 points, Anthony Vassell scored 10 points and had six blocked shots while Shaquille Rose scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds.
