The Grammy Awards proved itself a less-than-riveting experience for the Saturday Hustle team last Sunday night. Several ho-hum performances dampened our high hopes but we were proud to see Ziggy and Damian Marley onstage with Sting, Bruno Mars and Rihanna in a tribute to Bob Marley, and delighted that Jimmy Cliff took home his second golden gramophone trophy. We’re wrapping up the Grammys and featuring the night’s biggest winners.

Mumford & Sons

The British folk rock band walked off with the coveted album of the year honours for their Babel which debuted at the top of the American and British album charts upon its release in September last year. The band also won best long form music video for its song Big Easy Express at last Sunday’s Grammys.

Fun

The New York-based rock band won the Best New Artist trophy as well the award for Song of the Year for their mega-hit We Are Young. Their second album Some Nights has sold almost a million copies to date.

Jay-Z and Kanye West

The hip-hop icons got a triple taste of success, winning Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance Awards for their hit song N

– in Paris as well as a third award for Rap/Sung Collaboration for No Church In The Wild with Frank Ocean and The Dream.

The Black Keys

The critically acclaimed American rock band, hailing from Ohio, scooped up three golden gramophones, among them Best Rock Album for their El Camino record and Best Rock Performance for Lonely Boy.

Frank Ocean

Ocean rode the Grammy tide with six initial nominations and sailed off with two wins that included Best Urban Contemporary Album for Channel Orange.

Goyte (featuring Kimbra)

Goyte’s hit break-up ballad Somebody That I Used To Know (with Kimbra) was inescapable and distinctively fresh. Little surprise he claimed Record of the Year honours and Best Alternative Music album for Making Mirrors.
