Cash Plus trial hits snag
THE fraud trial of former Cash Plus boss Carlos Hill hit a snag yesterday after the court was informed about an amendment of the charges as well as the disclosure of new material in the case.
The trial was set to continue in the Home Circuit Court but Justice Paulette Williams told jurors to return today because of the turn of events.
The amended indictment now states, in part, that Hill, between April and November 2007, fraudulently induced people to invest in Cash Plus Limited and Cash Plus Group Limited by making statements that the companies were viable entities and promising investors returns on their money.
At the same time, the court was told about a compact disc that was served on the defence as well as an outstanding statement that is expected from the regulatory body, the Financial Services Commission.
Hill’s lead counsel Valerie Neita-Robertson, who appears along with Deborah Martin, expressed reservation about perusing the content of the CD to adequately prepare to continue today.
Hill was charged in 2008 following the collapse of Cash Plus.
Two witnesses testified on Tuesday to losing $620,000 in investment scheme.
