Forbes vows to break long jump record
ST JAMES, Jamaica (CMC) – Jamaica’s men’s long jump champion, Damar Forbes, has vowed to topple the event’s 16 year record within two years.
Forbes has pledged to better the distance of 8.62 metres set by record holder James Beckford at a meet in Florida in 1997.
“My eyes outdoor is on the Jamaican national record,” declared The Louisiana State University senior on the social site Twitter.
“I will break it within the next 2 years.”
He won the silver medal at last weekend’s NCAA Division One Indoor Championships at the University of Arkansas with a personal best 8.21m.
Forbes, who represented Jamaica at last year’s London Olympics and the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea in 2011, also qualified for this year’s IAAF World Championships in Moscow with his jump.
His personal best outdoors is 8.23m set in Iowa in 2011.
