Dominica to construct 120-room hotel
PRIME Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says his administration is holding “extensive and detailed discussions” with investors regarding the construction of a 120-room hotel on the outskirts of the capital.
But Skerrit, speaking on the state-owned DBS radio, did not disclose the name of the financiers and instead urged the private sector here to get involved in helping the Government grow the local economy and create jobs.
“We are in extensive and detailed discussions about the possibility of constructing a 120-room hotel. We already received the conceptual drawing for this hotel,” he said.
But Prime Minister Skerrit said while his administration’s interest is to “create economic activity, create jobs (and) grow the economy” there is also a role for the private sector.
“We would like to see the private sector get on board and partner with the government,” he said, adding, “We don’t want to own a hotel or manage a hotel. This is not our interest, our interest; is to create economic activity on Dominica.”
Skerrit said the need to create employment in the country is “why we are taking the initiative to get into the hotel business not because the Government wants to”.
