Bolt withdraws from JII

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica International Invitational (JII) suffered a blow Tuesday when double world record-holder Usain Bolt withdrew from this weekend’s meet.Related story: Tyson Gay added to JII 100m

Bolt’s withdrawal is due to tightness that he felt in training last weekend, his official website reported.

The six-time Olympic champion said he opted against competing after consultations with his coach, Glen Mills, who both decided to not risk injury.

“I am disappointed to miss the Kingston meet as I love running in front of my home town in Jamaica. I’m told it is only a Grade 1 strain so hopefully I will be OK soon,” Bolt said on the website.

The announcement comes as former double world champion, American Tyson Gay, was confirmed as a participant at the meet.

Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake also withdrew from the meet earlier after both suffered minor injuries in the last month.
