Walker pulls out of JII sprint hurdles
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Melaine Walker will not make a return to the sprint hurdles at Saturday’s Jamaica International Invitational at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The former 400m hurdles Olympic and World Champion was down to make her return to the event after running a personal best of 12.75 in 2006.
However, reports reaching the Observer are that the athlete does not feel she is fully prepared to compete in the sprint hurdles.
Walker returned to the shorter hurdles event after a recent public fall-out with former coach, Stephen Francis of MVP Track Club.
She has since moved to Racers Track Club to be coached by Glen Mills, who conditions athletes such as double world record holder Usain Bolt and World Champion Yohan Blake.
Walker is the latest athlete of note to withdraw from the meet following Bolt and Blake, Commonwealth champion Lerone Clarke and Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic 100m silver medallist Richard Thompson.
