Dela Vega City and Angels will contest today’s highly anticipated final of the St Catherine Jamaica Energy Partners Cricket competition at the Prison Oval in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Dela Vega City CC and Angels CC reached the final courtesy of wins over many-time champions Old Harbour CC and another former champion Ewarton Sports Club.

In a semi-final match played at the Esquivel Sports Club, the Old Harbour team batting first made 151, and in reply Dela Vega City made 152- 5. Batting for Old Harbour, Adrian Bartley made 41 and Christopher Halstead, 29 not out. Ricardo Ennis took 5-35 and Antwain Stephens, 2-62.

In Dela Vega City’s knock, Alexio Daley made 37, Wayne Morgan, 35, and Junior McKenzie, 30 not out. Bowling for Old Harbour, the veteran Lascelles Davis took 3-51.

In the other semi-final, Angels booked their place in the final after they created an upset to beat the highly fancied Ewarton team. Batting first, Ewarton made 181 with Angels replying with 184-5. Batting for Ewarton, National Under-15 representative Jemarie Harris made 51, and Garth Garvey, 41. Mark Gordon, who bowled 16 overs on the trot, took 5-75 runs. Angels at bat had Gavin Wallace scoring 53 not out with Hodane Bryce and Odayne Lewis making 32 and 31, respectively.

Both teams boast a string of youthful players; however, it is the veteran Wayne Morgan that Dela Vega City will be looking to for a victory.

Dela Vega City’s captain Karl Robinson said he would be banking on a team effort with good scores coming from his team’s leading and consistent batters in Wayne Morgan, Antwain Stephens and Junior McKenzie. His bowling attack is expected to come primarily from the all-rounder Morgan and himself.

Conrad Granston, captain of the Angels team, would not single out any particular player but insisted that his team had depth and that if they performed to potential, they should come out on top.

Leading batsman Marco Granston has made 225 runs so far this season with a highest score of 98. His opening partner Hodane Bryce has so far made 217.

Milholland Barker, president of the St Catherine Cricket Association, said both teams have been working very hard all season to reach the final.

The match starts at 10:00 am following a brief ceremony that will include executives from the cricketing fraternity and the sponsors, Jamaica Energy Partners.
