JAAA to decide on ‘Worlds’ training camp
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) is hoping to be able to name the site and date of the pre-IAAF World Championships camp by the time of the Supreme Ventures National Senior Trials next month.
President of the JAAA Dr Warren Blake told the Jamaica Observer last week “negotiations were still going on” regarding the venue and an announcement would be made as soon as possible “once those negotiations were completed”.
However, the JAAA boss would not say what venues were being considered to host the Jamaican team, as the athletes fine-tune for the World Championships that will be held August 10-19 in Moscow, Russia.
Pre-Championships camps are normally held for about nine days before the athletes are scheduled to move into the athletes’ village, which means the camp could start in late July.
The National Senior Championships are set for June 20-23 at the National Stadium in Kingston where a team to represent Jamaica at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Championships to be held in Mexico, July 5-7, will also be selected.
