Corinaldi Ave, St James Prep advance

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Corinaldi Avenue Primary and St James Prep completed the semi-finals line-up in the St James Football Association VMBS Under-13 competition with 2-0 wins over Howard Cooke Primary and Cambridge Primary, respectively, in Tuesday’s last set of quarter-final matches at the UDC field.

They will join Anchovy Primary and Granville All-Age in the semi-finals set for May 28 and 29 at the same venue.

Both games were expected to be close and competitive between teams that were locked on identical statistics, but the winners made both games no contests with easy wins.

Shadane Hamilton gave Corinaldi Avenue the lead after 16 minutes with his second goal of the season, while Chad Howell scored his third in the 40th minute to beat Howard Cooke Primary.

In the second game, Denri Williams scored his fourth of the season in the 10th minute, while Rosaun Phillips doubled the lead in the second-half in the 36th minute for his fifth goal of the season.

Next Tuesday, Howard Cooke and St James Prep will meet in one semi-final, while on Wednesday, Anchovy and Granville will meet for a place in the final set for June 5.
