Styleweek 2013 starts at Fiction

THE runway constructed on the Fiction nightclub’s dancefloor served as the ideal launch22 pad for Styleweek Jamaica 2013 on Wednesday.

The hip nightclub, located in The Marketplace, St Andrew, became the Caribbean’s fashion central into the wee hours of Labour Day morning.

Fashionistas and party-mode patrons stood transfixed in the capacity-filled venue as the models flaunted the latest designs.

Also attending was American Hollywood actor Brando Eaton from the Showtime series Dexter .

Saint International model-cum-designer Kadian Nicely’s spring/summer 2014 women’s collection was the first down the runway.

“They’re chic, punk and vintage. I use a lot of colours to make them vibrant,” said the self-taught 22-year-old, who is studying psychology at the University of the West Indies.

Also showcasing their designs for the evening were Balla Shawn, with his urban contemporary menswear, and swimsuits by Nish.

Balla Shawn pieces were a hit among several patrons.

“They were all amazing designs. Importantly though, the designers are taking themselves seriously and they are realising this is a global business that you can’t take for granted,” Peters told the Jamaica Observer.

Peters was elated at the support for the annual event.

“It magnificent. Great energy, great audience, and a celebrity in the house speaks to what is to come,” he said.

Styleweek continues with three shows this evening: 9:00 pm South Beach Café; 11:00 pm at Devon House’s Mahogany Tree Bar; and, 1:00 am at Fiction nightclub.

An all-white party will be at the UDC Car Park at the Waterfront in downtown Kingston tomorrow.

The week closes with Fashion Block along Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston on Sunday.

Styleweek is a fashion platform for new and established designers to showcase their collections.
