Laundromat robbery said linked to cash-for-gold trade
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — There was speculation late yesterday that an armed robbery at a laundromat in this south central town may be connected to the cash-for-gold trade
Police and citizens, who were early on the scene, said that about 4:30 pm three men entered the business place, one brandished a gun and robbed a customer of gold rings and a gold chain with pendant.
An alarm was raised as customers and employees in the laundromat screamed. A police patrol car, which was in the vicinity, responded and the gunmen fled through the back of the building.
Fears by employees that the gunmen had hidden themselves in the building dissipated following a “thorough search” of the premises, police say.
