All-Stars rally against Tigers
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Catherine Hall All-Stars staged a late comeback to beat winless Railway Lane Tigers 55-50 in a close, low-scoring game at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Saturday, as the Flow National Basketball League-West second
round continued.
In the second game, Lucea Flames beat promoted MBCC Knights 78-60.
Granville Jaguars lead the tables with 13 points from six wins and a loss, ahead of Hoopers on 12; All-Stars, Knights and Lucea are all on 11 points with Tigers on eight points.
On Saturday, All-Stars started the game without a number of their top players, some of whom arrived later and after the teams were tied 11-11 and 27-all after the first two quarters. Tigers had a big third quarter and looked set for their first win.
Tigers, who boast one of the biggest front lines in the competition, went ahead 42-35 at the end of the third quarter and when Richard Harriot hit two three-pointers midway the fourth, they appeared to be cruising.
Goyan Malcolm took over the game, however, and with the arrival of several players, including Ali Thompson and Vaughn Corke, they staged a big comeback for their fourth straight win.
Malcolm scored 22 points and had eight rebounds, while Marvin Powell scored 11 points; Harriot led Tigers with 16 points, Courtney Walters had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony Christie scored 10 points, as well.
In the other game, Julian Walker scored a game-high 22 points for Lucea and Craig Dorman scored 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds along with seven steals and four assists in their 18-point win.
Lucea led 26-15, 48-26 and 60-40 at the end of each period, as Daniel Malcolm and Jamoi Richards both scored 10 points each for Knights.
