Flames set for Hoopers in NBL
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Lucea Flames will be gunning for their third straight win in the Flow National Basketball League-West today when they take on joint leaders Hoopers in the first game of a double header at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, set to start at 6:00 pm.
Lucea Flames are coming off their biggest win in two years in the competition, beating Granville Jaguars 76-74 in a close game on Sunday, 24 hours after an easy 78-60 win over promoted MBCC Knights.
In the second game today, Jaguars will seek to rebound from their second loss this season when they take on defending champions Catherine Hall All-Stars.
On Sunday, Lucea held off a hard charging Jaguars, who were led by a season high 30 points by Leroy Lawrence.
After trailing by a point (13-14) after the first quarter, Lucea took over the lead 37-24 at half-time and increased their lead to 14 points (55-41) going into the fourth quarter.
Granville stormed back in the fourth quarter with 33 points, but just came up short despite Lawrence’s 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Dave Black scored 22 points and had three assists.
Craig Dorman topscored for Flames with 25 points, seven rebounds and five steals, with Julian Walker scored 18 points, four steals and five assists.
In the other game, Hoopers had an easy time against Tigers, who had a close loss the day before.
Dwayne Johns scored a season-high 23 points and five rebounds for Hoopers, as Marlon Comrie scored six points, but had 19 rebounds as they led 18-10, 37-25 and 47-38 at the intervals.
Damian Smith was the top scorer for Tigers with 14 points and 12 rebounds, five blocks and two steals, as Tammy Davis scored 13 points and had nine rebounds.
