North Gully Ambassadors eye St FA Sandals/League semis
MONTEGO BAY, St James – North Gully Ambassadors are a point away from securing their place in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Senior League, after an upset 2-1 win over Montego Bay Boys Club in their third round game played at the UDC field on Tuesday.
Two first half goals, including a brilliant free kick from former national representative Hector Wright gave North Gully Ambassadors the win and took them to 27 points.
A change in the announced format of the competition will see different teams now vying for the semi-finals places.
At the start of the season it was announced that the top four teams on points after the third round, would qualify for the semi-finals. However, it was learned this week that it is the top two teams from the original zones from the first two rounds that would advance.
So far Montego Bay Boys Club-31 points and Little Miami-29 points have secured the places from Zone B, while three teams North Gully Ambassadors, Fogo United and Salt Spring United, are in the race for the two places from Zone A.
Fogo United are on 24 points with Salt Spring, who beat Revelations FC 2-0 on earlier this week.
On Monday, Wright scored in the 15th and 40th minutes, the latter a delightfully chipped free kick from about 25 yards out, that just cleared the wall and lodged into the left corner of the goal, just out of the reach of a defender.
Glenroy Williams pulled one back for Boys Club in the second half, when he pounced on a defender’s error and shot the ball powerfully into the goal.
In another game played on Tuesday, Montego Bay United Under 21 and Granville City drew 1-1.
