Bad Influence rules Sound Ruption
AUTO sound systems from across the island came out to the Montego Bay Cricket Club at Jarrett Park on Labour Day, May 23, to battle for bragging rights and cash prizes amounting to $150,000.
Kingsley Scott, event promoter and principal of Scott’s Auto, said he was pleased with the staging and the way the competitors conducted themselves.
The sound systems competed in ‘Best 45’ tunes and ‘Dub for Dub’ sections. The audience, by way of ‘shouts’ or ‘forwards’, determine the winner.
Visiting female sound system DJ from Germany, Big Mama, displayed versatility as she entertained the massive crowd.
But the evening undoubtedly belonged to last year’s champion Bad Influence out of Kingston.
His 1993 Nissan pick-up is arguably the best audio car sound system in Jamaica.
“I love music. It’s in my bones. I love the excitement of a sound clash,” said Dean Harriott, owner and selector of Bad Influence audio.
Sound system Lippo won the 45 segment.
After hours of rigourous battle in the 45 and dub for dub segment, it was Bad Influence who again emerged the winner and walked away with the trophy and $50,000.
