KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica equalized against the US in the dying minutes of the World Cup Qualifier at the National Stadium in Kingston to revive hope for the Reggae Boyz’ trip to Brazil.

But the celebrations were short-lived as the Americans hit back in the 90th minute to make the final score 2-1.

US led the match from the 30th minute of the first half.

If the loss to Mexico Tuesday night left the Jamaicans with a difficult task, then the US made the task almost impossible after their victory.

Jozy Altidore put the victors ahead in the 30th minute and after substitute Jermaine Beckford pulled the reggae Boyz level a minute from the regulation time, Bradley Evans turned up two minutes into added time to steal victory for the Americans and almost certainly condemned the Boyz to elimination.

The result propelled the USA to top of the six-nation final phase with seven points, ahead of Mexico on six, Panama on five, followed by Costa Rica and Honduras on four, and Jamaica rooted at the bottom on to points.?Panama and Mexico were 0-0 after 75 minutes and Costa Rica were leading Honduras 1-0 after 63 minutes.

The Reggae Boyz depart the island Saturday for Fort Lauderdale where they will remain for two days before journeying on to Honduras on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s encounter against that country.
