Zouks congratulate Tallawahs on winning CPL trophy
CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) — The St Lucia Zouks have congratulated the Jamaica Tallawahs on their victory in the first ever Limacol Caribbean Premier League which climaxed in Port of Spain, Saturday night.
Tallawahs defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by seven wickets in the final to claim the first trophy in the tournament, which ran for a month.
Chris Gayle and Andre Russell guided the Tallawahs to victory with an unbeaten 62 from 34 balls.
“The final was everything it was expected to be, full of energy, excitement and a fighting spirit,” said Darren Sammy, captain of the St Lucia Zouks.
“The choice to send in the Warriors to bat obviously paid off and the Tallawahs will now go down in history as the winners of this fantastic form of cricket in the inaugural Limacol CPL.”
Sammy also had high praise for the Antigua Hawksbills that did not advance to the semi-final stage of the tournament.
The Zouks skipper has promised that his franchise will come back strong in next year’s edition.
“We might have lost, but the Zouks fans are the winners in every sense of the word,” said Sammy.
“They brought with them the maximum energy and enthusiasm and we couldn’t have asked for a more supportive group of fans wherever we played. Thanks to all the Zoukers. We promise that next year we’ll be coming back stronger, playing harder and staying longer.”
The 2014 and 2015 tournaments will take place from July 5 to August 10 and June 21 to July 26, respectively.
