Hundreds benefit from Flow’s back-to-school fair
MONTEGO BAY, St James
Scores of parents, teachers and students from across St James
flocked the Old Hospital Park in Montego Bay last Saturday for
the inaugural staging of the Flow, Discovery Channel back-to
school fair.
The event was staged in association with the Jamaica Observer
and several other sponsors and partners including the St James
Parish Council, KFC, NCB Insurance Company Limited, Pizza Hut,
Wisynco, the Ministry of Education, Sangster’s Book Store,
National Health Fund and BIGGA.
Throughout the day persons in attendance were treated to a
rich entertainment package and participated in a raft of
activities which included presentations, delivering educational
tips among other things.
Attendees received free health screening in addition to
discounts on books and school supplies. Several lucky students
walked away with scholarships valued at $30,000 each and
backpacks filled with school supplies.
Flow’s public relations manager Jeannette Lewis said the event
was a huge success.
” We are very pleased with the turnout, we are very happy that
our partners including Discovery Channel were able to come on
board to make this a success, and the fact that we were able to
bring value, education and entertainment to the Montego Bay
community and help parents and students get ready for back-to
school,” said Lewis.
Head of Advertising, Marketing and Communications at the
Jamaica Observer, Natalie Chin -Watkins noted that the
Observer partnered with Wysinco in bringing the company’s
Learning Corner, Study Centre and Junior Study Centre to the
scores of persons in attendance.
” ….. And the response was excellent. A lot of people came out
and got free water bottles and pencil cases………..,” said Chin –
Watkins.
Kathleen Stewart from Orange, St James, was among the
parents in attendance.
She commended Flow and its sponsors and partners for staging
the event.
