Model Makeup: Thakoon’s Blue-and-Gold Eyeshadow
The shows at New York Fashion Week Fall 2013 were filled with some of the most inspired beauty ideas we’ve seen on the runway in a while — like the orange lips at Rag & Bone, the silver racing stripe nails at Monika Chiang and the bubble-gum-pink lipstick at Diane von Furstenberg.
But it was the gorgeous midnight blue-and-gold eyeshadow — done by makeup artist Diane Kendal to match the rich fabrics of Thakoon’s collection — that really stood out from the pack. The velvety blue shadow, combined with shimmering gold glitter, was inspired by the line’s union of winter and summer. Glamour’s Annamarie Tendler shows us how to get this fab runway look in seven easy steps!
Step 1: Prep face in your own preferred manner, using the moisturiser, concealer or foundation of your choice.
Step 2: Apply NARS Sex Appeal Blush, a warm pink shade, to the cheekbones, moving from the apple of the cheeks to the temples.
Step 3: Apply the sparkly purple and blue shadows in the NARS Marie Galante Eyeshadow Duo to the lid from lash line to crease. Apply the purple shade first, followed by the blue.
Step 4: Apply NARS Zardoz, a black eyeshadow, to the outer corners of the eyes along the lash line and into the outer edge of the crease. To modify this step for a less “runway” look, don’t add dramatic wings to your shadow, instead keep it just past the outer corner of the eye.
Step 5: Apply NARS Outremer shadow, a bright blue, directly over the black. This will result in a velvety navy blue.
Step 6: Tap a gold glitter, or shimmer, on the centre of the lids. The gold colour adds the summer feel to this winter look. Using a shimmer, instead of a glitter, will make this look more wearable off the runway. However, if you’re feeling adventurous, don’t be afraid to go for the glitter.
Step 7: Apply your favorite mascara to the top lids.
