JC, Wolmer’s making noise in Manning Cup
AFTER two rounds of matches in the ISSA/LIME schoolboy Manning Cup competition, many-time winners Jamaica College, who registered 5-0 and 6-0 victories over Tivoli Gardens High and St Andrew College, respectively, lead Group E with six points.
Jose Marti Technical and Bridgeport High, who both have a record of one win and a draw, are joint second on four points.
Ardenne High are next with three points, while Tivoli Gardens and St Andrew College stand both without a point.
In Group A, Ascot High surprised Calabar High 1-0 and are on top with six points. Last season’s beaten finalists Hydel High and Edith Dalton James High follow with four points each, while Calabar (three) are in fourth.
Jonathan Grant High and St Andrew Technical are pointless at the base of the group.
Former champions Excelsior High lead Group B with six points, ahead of Norman Manley High (four), Haile Selassie High (three), Waterford High (three), St Jago High (one), and Cumberland High (zero).
Walker Cup title-holders Wolmer’s Boys’ (six points) began the season with a pair of rampaging 6-0 wins against Kingston Technical and Papine High, respectively. However, Denham Town High are also perfect, and after three games lead Group C with nine points.
St Catherine High are next with six points, followed by Papine High, with Clan Carthy High and Kingston Technical in the cellar position without a point.
Champions St George’s College, and former winners Camperdown High are on top of Group D with seven points, followed by Vauxhall High on five, and Charlie Smith High on four points.
Oberlin High come next on one point, with Donald Quarrie High yet to get off the mark in the points column.
Late entrant Eltham High have surged into the lead in Group F on four points, on goal difference over Spanish Town High after two games. Kingston College, who have played just one game, come next with three points, followed by Greater Portmore on two, and Penwood High (zero).
Group G, which is bereft of any traditional challengers, saw Trench Town High and Holy Trinity High going out in front with six points apiece.
Innswood High (three), St Mary’s College (three), Meadowbrook High (zero), and Campion College brought up the rest of the group standings.
