‘We have missed many boats’

Talk Back

A revelation that the makers of the film Home Again were snubbed by the Jamaican Government, forcing them to seek help from and shoot the flick in Trinidad, has been severely criticised by Jamaica Observer online readers. On Monday, writer co-producer Jennifer Holness told Observer editors and reporters that she and her team tried, without success, to get the Jamaican Government on board. The film depicts challenges faced by individuals who are deported to Jamaica. Here are some edited comments:

Holy Perv

Not strange at all. We are always denying ourselves success as most of us are too important to answer the door when opportunity knocks.

Dorlan H Francis

I can attest to that. The guys in Jamaica have a hard time seeing things before they appear (exist). That is what is called vision. And as the Good Book says: ‘Without vision the people perish’.

johnchristian

We talk a good talk… that’s about it.

rasbenji

Did someone say Jamaica was unfriendly to investors? One Love!

higla

There are many, many stories like this.

Outside the box

Another clear example of how hard it is to do business in Jamaica. You expect people to create their own jobs or investors to pour more money into our country and yet you have this much red tape in the way. Talk about counterproductive.

MeDoneTalk

People, people, people, why are you surprised? Or NOT. If the Jamaican Government cannot capitalise on the success of our athletes since the last two Olympics and 2013 World Championships, what do you expect?

Why do you think Jamaicans overseas cannot get the right to vote in local elections? Because we wouldn’t put up with the foolishness that them carrying on with. We smart enough to see that some of these career politicians need to be put out to pasture.

stairwell

Maybe the film will expose certain truths and we would rather be in denial.

What else is new? Sad!

jayjayja

We have missed many boats, we will miss the trans-shipment port also. What a backward country!

daltjohns

Who is to be blamed for all of this? It sure is not the politicians, it’s those who elect them. You have people who are in politics doing nothing to enhance the development of us Jamaicans or the economy, but yet they get elected everytime. Now, what did Einstein say?

indecom

That’s what happened when you have a bunch of loggerheads running the country; they lack vision and where there’s no vision the people will perish. That’s the same reason why we can’t get any investors in Jamaica.

vanillasteve

Nothing new here. Nothing more ridiculous than trying to get bureaucratic fat cats to try to actually do something constructive without a photo op or ribbon-cutting.
