Derby winner returns at the top level

BY OBSERVER RACING WRITER

The feature on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park tomorrow is the Governor General Stakes over 10 furlongs. This is a long-standing race on the calendar and usually represents the final preparation event for the much vaunted Superstakes run in early November over the same distance.

Derby and St Leger winner Perfect Neighbour returns to the racetrack after a 42-day rest and will compete against six other horses including stablemate Classy Prospect and the ever challenging and talented Commanding Chief.

The Complete Racing Guide previews this event for our readers.

1. TIME FOR ARMS (BL) 115 lb (52.0 kg) Richard Mitchell Fitzroy Glispie

Has not done well in his last four races after impressing all with his early season form when many pundits suggested he would be a force come Superstakes Day. Despite his last four races cannot be left out as he will get the distance and can rebound at any time.

2. RAGING PROSPECT (L) 114 lb (51.5 kg) Percy Williams Fitzroy Glispie

In cracking form at the moment although his last effort, ninth, behind Commanding Chief and Typewriter over a mile can be disregarded. He is a gutsy sort who, despite moving up 4 lb in the scales, will relish every inch of this two-turn race. He always seems to be the bridesmaid but come tomorrow, WATCH OUT.

3. PERFECT NEIGHBOUR (TL) 120 lb (54.5 kg) Dick Cardenas Wayne DaCosta

Derby winner who is acquitting himself well in the top echelon of racing. Learning really fast as evidenced by his recent close second to Typewriter over nine furlongs and 25 yards. Will relish every inch of the extra approximately one furlong for tomorrow’s race. Perfect Neighbour is working well, his barn is quietly confident and the situation is ripe for him to become the first of the present lot of three-year-olds to win at the highest level. His progress will be watched closely.

4. SWEET TRAIL (L) 110 lb (50.0 kg) Shamaree Muir Patrick Chang

Good sort who is always genuine. Can’t see her doing much here against the males.

5. CLASSY PROSPECT (L) 126 lb (57.0 kg) Dane Nelson Wayne DaCosta

With age has developed into a stayer of note while still able to compete over the middle distances. Has defeated both Raging Prospect and Commanding Chief over 10 furlongs and is the top-rated horse in the line-up. A truly genuine campaigner who relishes competition and will run well despite giving away the weight to worthy opponents.

6. KAL KAL (LT) USA 112 lb (51.0 kg) Devon A Thomas Wayne DaCosta

Despite her rather unusual recent win, seems out of place here. Not even her status as the only foreigner in the race can aid her tomorrow.

7. COMMANDING CHIEF 123 lb (56.0 kg) Paul Francis Everal Francis

True and genuine racer. After many changes of riders, Paul Francis seems to finally fit the bill. Won under pressure over a mile two weeks ago, just holding on from Typewriter; however, the trip of 10 furlongs will hold no fears, given his proven versatility.

A humdinger is in store for the right to take home the spoils from the Governor General Stakes. Don’t miss it.
