Kemps Hill into Ben Francis KO
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Kemps Hill High qualified for their second-straight Ben Francis Knockout competition yesterday after scoring a 1-0 win over Foga Road in their rescheduled ISSA/LIME Zone N game to move to an unassailable 17 points.
Kemps Hill followed up last season’s historic qualification by winning their fifth game this season with a game to go on Saturday, also against Foga Road.
Earlier this week they had secured their place in the Inter-Zone round along with former champions Vere Technical, who were advancing past the first round for the first time in over a decade.
Kemps Hill became the fifth school to qualify for the Ben Francis KO, joining Manchester High, Clarendon College, Dinthill Technical and Port Antonio High.
Another 13 schools have also secured their places in the Inter-Zone round ahead of tomorrow’s final set of regularly scheduled games — St James High, Green Pond High, Muschett High, Grange Hill High, Godfrey Stewart High, Christiana High, Marcus Garvey Technical, Cedric Titus High, St Mary Technical, Garvey Maceo, defending daCosta Cup champions Glenmuir High, Vere Technical and Paul Bogle High.
Meanwhile, in other games played yesterday, Bellefield High were edged 1-0 by Manchester High, who were winning their eighth-straight game and will have to beat B B Coke in their winner-take-all clash in Zone F on Saturday, if they are to return to the Inter-Zone round.
Bellefield and B B Coke are both on 13 points, but B B Coke have the better goal difference.
