DRAG racing fans will have much to rejoice about as the National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) has managed to secure and extra date of racing at Vernamfield in Clarendon on Sunday.

Action starts at 8:00 am.

“We originally had only secured two dates on the motorsports calendar, but due to the large number of requests from competitors, we were able to work with the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club to get this event going,” NDRC executive member Christopher Elliot told Auto.

Drag Challenge #2: The Battle for Supremacy Continues will feature 10 classes including the popular pro classes for cars running the quarter-mile between 9.99 seconds and 7.5 seconds.

Elliot expects a good turn of cars based on the Test and Tune session the NDRC held last Sunday.

“That is usually the thermometer we normally use to gauge the entries we expect on race day. We had 48 cars, usually we double that,” Elliot said.

The NDRC is also using one of their new online driver registration form, to help calculate driver turnout.

“So far, we’ve had 70 downloads of the form.”

The pre-registration is part of an initiative to help cut time to avoid the late start and irregular breaks of the previous event that saw the elimination runs scrapped due to a lack of light. The NDRC is pulling out all the stops to make sure competitors finish their scheduled elimination rounds by taking on several critical functions themselves.

“The NDRC has taken back on board setting up the power supply and crowd control barricades ourselves. There will be pre-assigned pits and roaming scrutineers to help get racers racing,” explained Elliot.
