Kingston-High-takes-Showdown
KINGSTON High is the winner of this week’s Digicel Showdown: High School Disc Jock Competition, which saw them competing against Wolmer’s Boys’ School.
Kingston High was represented by Steven ‘DJ Steve Cole’ Johnson and Shawayne Arnold, while Wolmer’s was represented by Janoi ‘DJ Shutdown’ Pinnock and Daniel ‘DJ Dan Dan’ Williams.
The competition had its usual five rounds: warm-up, early juggling, task round, high intensity juggling, and tune-for-tune showdown.
The crowd grew, the vibe got intense, and the competition itself was at an all-time high.
The contestants delivered their sets with energy and charisma and the crowd enjoyed every minute of it.
Both teams were delivering similar songs in the first two rounds, but the task round was the game-changer.
This week’s task was for the contestants to play pop music. Playing crowd-favourites from artistes like Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, Kingston High was deemed as the dominators of that round by the crowd.
For the rest of the competition, both teams delivered their sets with fluidity and high energy.
The much-anticipated tune-for-tune round was a complete show-stopper; Kingston High pleasantly surprised the crowd with their choice of songs and their gimmicks on stage.
While the judges for this week Fire Ras from Stone Love, Dr Dre from Renaissance, and ZJ Ice from ZIP 103 FM deliberated, the students were treated to phone card giveaways and the grand prize raffle of a dmartphone from Digicel. The entertainment set for this week came from artiste D-Major.
