Under The Dryer: The Rockstar

Before heading off to Hollywood, recording artist and The Voice MVP Tessanne Chin heads to Lisa Hutchinson, at Lisa’s Full Service Salon in New Kingston, to take her coif into edgier territory. Come, let’s take you behind the scenes — here’s how to get the look!

THE ARSENAL

From Redken’s Smooth Lock line, Lisa uses: 1. The Smooth Lock shampoo to nourish Tessanne’s hair, improve manageability and to protect against damage. 2. The Smooth Lock conditioner to combat frizz and to revitalise the hair. 3. The Smooth Lock Heat Glide smoother to Tessanne’s locks to protect against heat damage and to encourage frizz-taming and cuticle-smoothing.

Enriched with rosemary extracts, the Crème of Nature Neutralising & Conditioning shampoo restores the pH balance of Tessanne’s tresses while removing residuals from the colouring process.

Lisa relies on Crème of Nature colour components to assist with the highlighting process and to find the right blend of shades for Tessanne’s new’ do. 3. Crème of Nature’s Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment deep-conditions the newly coloured – but fragile- look in order to strengthen, revitalise and lock in moisture. 4. The Crème of Nature Foaming Wrap Lotion will give Tessanne soft, silky, long-lasting hold when she emerges from under the dryer.

STEPS

1 After Tessanne’s scissor-layered cut, Lisa applies the base colour which is followed up with the variegated blond bits that will make up the side-swept from the crown. Processing Time: 25-30 minutes for the base colour and 15 minutes for the highlights.

2 After Tessanne’s new colour is locked in and the products have been washed out of the hair and a neutralising shampoo incorporated to halt the colouring process and remove excess colour residue, Lisa places her under a dryer for 10 minutes.

3 Lisa then uses her fingers and blow dryer to remove excess moisture and encourage volume.

4 Tessanne’s new highlights become visible throughout the crown, while the short sides closer to scalp display the deep chestnut tones of the base colour.

5 Next, Lisa sections the hair and uses a straightener to create texture throughout the side-sweep.

6 Lisa continues the texture creation process with her fingers

7 Lisa, with help from Tessanne, creates more volume through the crown and into the bangs.

8 Tessanne fluffs the hair as she admires her new look and Lisa’s handiwork.
