I have lost my ‘Voice’
Dear Editor,
My family and I started watching The Voice and America’s Got Talent from 2011 and 2009 respectively, and these shows form part of our family fun-time activities. Therefore, we all look forward to them, and laugh and have fun while watching them.
My family consists of two young children, whose bedtime is 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm respectively.
This year TVJ and Digicel decided to buy exclusive rights to The Voice. By doing this they show the episodes live on RETV and delayed on TVJ at 9:00 pm.
I do not have RETV among my cable package, therefore, my family and I cannot watch the show live anymore. Also, as I mentioned above, my young children have to go to bed at a certain time. Therefore, we have not been able to watch our beloved show, which we have been faithfully watching since inception.
Did TVJ and Digicel even think about children when they decided to do something like this. After all, this is a G-rated programme. And, why would they take it for granted that everyone in Jamaica subscribes to RETV, which I think is a PG-rated channel, because it shows some videos that I do not think are appropriate for my children to watch.
Also, did they even stop to think that maybe there are other regularly scheduled programmes watched on other channels at the delayed time.
TVJ and Digicel, have disrupted my family fun time. And I know I speak for a lot of disgruntled viewers. I can hardly find the words to explain how I truly feel. I have literally lost my voice.
