Jamaican martial artist cops bronze in Costa Rica
THE Jamaica Taekwondo Federation’s Craig Brown accompanied by international referee Conrad Jenkins participated at the 6th Costa Rica Open Championship at San Jose, Costa Rica.
Some 900 athletes from 38 countries participated in the competition.
In the National Gymnasium on October 6, Brown, competing in the 80kg welterweight division beat the Venezuelan, Alexander Maiz, 11-5. The Jamaican secured the victory with a round house kick that floored Maiz.
But Brown went on to lose 6-8 in the semi-finals to Aaron Cook of the Isle of Man, ranked sixth in the world.
Evaluating Brown’s overall performance against Cook, Jenkins said he strongly believes that the Jamaican is capable of defeating the former in the near future.
Meanwhile, Jenkins officiated in the Cook vs Carlos Rivas final match where the Brit took the gold medal 16-2 over the Venezuelan.
Rivas won silver, while Brown and Trinidadian Lenn Hypolite won bronze medals, respectively.
