Accused in ‘barrel murder’ remanded
A vendor who is accused of murdering his landlord and stuffing his body in a cardboard barrel last month was again denied bail Wednesday when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The 28-year-old accused, Robert Cherrington, of James Street in Allman Town, Kingston, is charged with the murder of Peter Brown, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds in a barrel at the corner of Emily Lane, in the vicinity of Conrad Lane, Allman Town, on September 18.
It is alleged that Cherrington gave someone Brown’s body in the barrel with the instructions as to where it should be placed. According to the police, Brown was killed at his home which was occupied by Cherrington and other tenants.
When the matter was mentioned Wednesday, Cherrington’s lawyer, Vincent Wellesley, pleaded with Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey to offer his client bail, noting that he was not a flight risk.
He is scheduled to return to court on November 26.
