Uprising Roots delivers
LAST Friday, the Cable Hut Beach in Bull Bay, St Thomas came alive with the sounds of the Uprising Roots Band who headlined their Live To Vinyl show.
The quartet gave an energetic performance, doing songs from their Skyfiyah album such as Marcus Garvey, Most Royal, Blessings, Know Yourself and Krash Like Lightening. They also gave a sample from their upcoming album, Black To I Roots, with the songs Trench Town, Jerusalem and UNIA.
Bass player Ruel ‘Pot A Rice’ Ashburn called on fans to support live music.
“Support the music in terms of buying the albums. I walk off my nine-to-five about 2000 to play roots, rock, reggae to keep the music alive. Hear rumour like reggae dead an’ reggae cyaan dead. Reggae come in like gospel,” he said.
Sound system selectors Gabre Selassie and DJ DC also entertained the crowd with vinyl selections.
The event’s promoter and Uprising Roots Band manager Darren Hamilton said he is encouraged by the response and is already planning the next Live To Vinyl show, scheduled for November 29 at the same venue.
